Plastering and Painting Services

Sterk Stukadoor means “strong plasterer” in Dutch. Plastering makes a wall or ceiling smooth and ready for the next step, a coat of paint or wallpaper going up. I’ve been doing that for almost twenty years, inside and out, in new-build homes and older houses.

Every job starts with the surface underneath. Plasterboard needs a different approach than an old brick wall, and a ceiling full of cracks needs something else again than a smooth new-build wall. I look at that first, then at the finish.

Below are the seven services I do most, from walls and ceilings to repairs and paintwork. I’m based in Gorinchem and cover a wider area than you might expect. If you’re not sure which service fits your job, send a photo and I’ll tell you what I see.

Plaster repair

A crack above a door, a hole in the wall, a ceiling coming loose after a leak, that’s what I fix. I look at the cause first, because a crack that keeps coming back needs a different approach than one that’s done after a single patch. Hairline cracks, moving cracks, water damage on a ceiling, I see it more often than you’d expect.

Wall plastering

Plastering walls is the job I do most: a living room, a loft, a brand-new house waiting for its walls to be finished, all made smooth and level. Paint-ready when paint goes on next, or ready for wallpaper when that’s the plan instead. I work on plasterboard and on old brick walls, and in bathrooms with a plaster that can handle damp.

Ceiling plastering

Plastering a ceiling is more precise work than a wall. You’re working above your head, and every small unevenness shows the moment light falls across it. I make ceilings smooth, close the joints between plasterboard sheets, and repair a ceiling that’s starting to come loose.

Exterior render

Rendering a facade is a different trade than interior work: scaffolding, the weather, and a render that can handle the outdoors. I strip off the old, loose layer first, otherwise the new layer won’t hold. I’ve rendered whole bungalows white and repaired single facade sections, from ground level up to the roofline.

Exterior painting

Painting window frames and facades protects the wood and the render against wind and weather, and stops rot from starting unnoticed. I paint frames, doors and exterior walls, often straight after rendering so the whole job wraps up in one go and the scaffolding only goes up once.

Interior painting

Painting walls and ceilings after plastering, or repainting an existing wall with no plastering needed first, I do that too. Ceiling first, then the walls, gives the neatest result, and I plan around the drying time of the plaster before picking up a brush.

Ceiling lowering and new ceilings

Lowering a ceiling or fitting a new one is work I do with plasterboard, often to hide pipes or an old joist floor, or to give a loft a flat, clean ceiling. I build the frame, fit the boards and close the joints. Then I plaster the whole thing smooth, ready for paint.
