Blog: Plastering and Painting Questions
Clients keep asking me the same questions: how long does plaster need to dry, is filler enough, what do you do first with a damp patch. I've set out those answers below.
I get asked much the same questions on almost every job. How long does a wall need to dry before paint can go on. Is filler enough, or does a layer of plaster need to go over it. What do you do first with a damp patch. Below I’ve written a short answer to those questions, in plain language.
The same question keeps coming back, on the phone and on the job itself. I explain it the same way I would at your door: short, with the reason behind it, without difficult trade jargon. A client in Gorinchem put it like this. Reviews on this site are in Dutch, straight from Werkspot, and I’ve left them exactly as clients wrote them:
“Na plaatsing zeer snel contact gehad, communicatie was helder, kon zeer snel langskomen voor een kijkje te nemen en kwam direct met heldere en goede antwoorden op mijn vragen. Voorbeeld: het plafond in de badkamer moest bij ons gedaan worden en de stucadoor kwam direct aanzetten met Knauf Aquastuc ipv gewone stucwerk. Puik werk geleverd.” Source: Marcel, Gorinchem (Werkspot review)
The same explanation I give then, I put down here too. That way you already know something before I turn up, and you don’t need to call first for a question that’s already answered below.
Articles about plastering and painting
Each article covers one question: how long plaster needs to dry, how you get a wall smooth, what to do with a damp patch, and more. Always the short answer first, then the explanation behind it.
Already know exactly what you need? Then head straight to what I do. Still not sure, send a photo of your job or your question, and I’ll answer quickly.
