Plasterer in Utrecht and the Surrounding Area

Yes, I work in Utrecht too. I travel from Gorinchem, about 40 minutes away, and I've already helped clients in Utrecht and the towns around it.

Plasterer in Utrecht

Yes, I work in Utrecht too. My name’s Osman, I’m the plasterer behind Sterk Stukadoor (Dutch for “strong plasterer”), and I travel from Gorinchem: that’s about 42 kilometres, roughly 40 minutes by car, usually via the A27.

I’ve been plastering and painting for almost 20 years, and clients in Utrecht found me through Werkspot, where they left reviews. You can read exactly what they said further down this page.

A 42 kilometre drive isn’t something I’d do for one small job alone, but in a region I already visit often, it’s no real barrier in practice.

What I do in Utrecht and the surrounding area

In Utrecht I do the same work as in Gorinchem: wall and ceiling plastering, repairs, exterior rendering and painting. The difference is in the type of house. Utrecht has both older neighbourhoods with homes that are decades old, and large new-build districts like Leidsche Rijn. That calls for a different approach.

In an older house, I look at the surface first: is the existing layer good enough to build on, or does it need to come off before anything new goes on? In a new-build area, it’s the other way round. There the surface is usually new and even, but still completely bare, and the job is the first finishing layer before you can paint or wallpaper. Below is how I approach each situation.

Strak gestuct plafond met zwarte balken
Ceiling plastering, including when the existing ceiling needs replacing
Gladgestucte, ongeschilderde binnenmuur in strijklicht
Wall plastered smooth, ready for paint
Woonkamer met gestucte boogvormen, nog kaal en ongeschilderd
Walls plastered, ready for the next step in the finish

Older homes with lime and plaster ceilings

Utrecht has plenty of older homes, and many of them still have a ceiling with an old lime layer or plasterwork from the last century. After decades, that type of ceiling often starts to crack, flake or come loose in places. That’s a normal sign of age for a ceiling that old, not proof that something is seriously wrong with the house.

A lime layer is porous and moves with damp and temperature. That exact movement causes hairline cracks after years, often where the ceiling meets a wall or a cornice, or a loose edge somewhere. That doesn’t automatically mean the whole ceiling has come away. Often it’s just one spot where the adhesion has weakened over the years, while the rest of the ceiling is still perfectly sound.

If the damage is limited to a few cracks or one loose patch, plaster repair is usually enough. If the whole ceiling has had it, a fresh layer through ceiling plastering is the better option. Sometimes an old ceiling also gets lowered during a renovation, to hide pipework or insulation for example, and that’s work I take on as well.

I judge from photos, or in person, what’s needed: repair, replastering, or lowering. With an old lime layer, I also check whether a primer coat is needed before the new plaster goes on, so it bonds properly and doesn’t dry out too fast. That saves you making the wrong choice up front.

New build in Leidsche Rijn

Leidsche Rijn is one of Utrecht’s largest new-build districts, built up over recent years. New build doesn’t automatically mean there’s nothing left to do. A new home is often delivered bare: plain walls, ready for the first finishing layer before you can paint or wallpaper.

I come to new-build homes for exactly that work. Wall plastering on plasterboard usually goes faster than on an old, uneven wall, because the surface underneath is flatter and more even. There are still joints between the boards, and sometimes screw holes, that need filling first, otherwise they’ll show through a thin coat of paint later on. The result should look the same as in an existing home: smooth and even, ready for the next step in the finish.

Painter in Utrecht

After the plastering often comes the paint, and I do that too. I paint walls, ceilings and window frames, indoors and outdoors, and I prefer doing that straight after my own plastering work. That way I know exactly when a wall is dry enough to paint, without you having to wait for another company to come and judge that separately. It saves you a day too: no waiting time between the plasterer and the painter, because that’s me either way.

For interior painting in Utrecht, the same applies as for plastering: send a photo of the room, and I’ll know what’s involved. If it’s the outside, window frames or a facade for instance, I paint that just as well.

Do you also work around Utrecht?

Yes. Utrecht sits centrally in a region I already visit often: Nieuwegein, Culemborg, Veenendaal and Amersfoort are all roughly on the same route from Gorinchem. If I’ve already got a job in that area, a second address nearby is no problem.

That doesn’t mean I only come when something else is on the schedule. It mainly means the distance to this region is no real barrier. I’ve done jobs here before, from a bathroom in Nieuwegein to exterior ceiling work in Utrecht itself.

Clients in the Utrecht region

Reviews from the city itself and the towns around it say more than a sales pitch. Below is what clients from Utrecht and the wider region wrote about their job on Werkspot. Reviews are in Dutch, from Werkspot, since that’s where Osman’s clients leave them.

In Utrecht itself, it was a ceiling on the outside:

In Nieuwegein, I plastered a bathroom, quickly after the enquiry:

“Na 2 dagen kwam Osman onze badkamer al opnieuw stucen. Hij heeft heel netjes werk geleverd en wij zijn dan ook dik tevreden.” Source: Kees, Nieuwegein (Werkspot review)

In Culemborg, it was a living room:

“Hele goede en vakkundige stucadoor. Werkt zo netjes en zorgvuldig. Is ontzettend rustig en bescheiden en vriendelijk. Meteen gevraagd voor de volgende klus. Ik beveel hem van harte aan.” Source: Malka, Culemborg (Werkspot review)

In Veenendaal, it was exterior plastering:

“Zeer goed gedaan, vriendelijk en behulpzaam. Harde werker en prachtig resultaat. Ik beveel Ousman van harte aan!” Source: Luc Geraats, Veenendaal (Werkspot review)

And in Amersfoort, a hallway with ceilings inside:
